Unique documents about seven Kazakhs who died during the Second World War have been discovered in France.
They fought in the ranks of the French Resistance Movement against the Nazis. Lists of more than 20 Kazakhs buried in the national military necropolis “Chambière” were also found*
These important discoveries were made by Doctor of Historical Sciences Gulnara Mendikulova, having studied the archives of the regions of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Defense of France and the National Library.
Reference:
More than 1.2 million Kazakhs went to the front, hundreds of thousands died. They participated in key battles: near Moscow, Stalingrad, at Kursk Bulge, stormed Berlin. But few people know that they also fought in Europe – in partisan detachments and the resistance movement.
Now their names are returning from oblivion. This is not just a story of war – it is a story of courage linking Kazakhstan and France.
